Singing
I did a minor as an undergraduate in music, with a focus on composition. Although I don't have much time to compose these days, I do try to keep singing. In San Diego I sang under Ruben Valenzuela with the Bach Collegium in a performance of The Creation by Handel. Prior to that I was in the short-lived group Choralis under Richard Sparks. Before that I was with the San Francisco Symphony Chorus under Ragnar Bohlin and Vance George and the Haydn Singers with Paul Flight. At UC Berkeley I sang with Perfect Fifth under Mark Summer for two years and the University Chorus under Marika Kuzma for a semester. Prior to that I sang with the Chamber Choir and Concert Chorus at MIT under Bill Cutter and was lucky enough to sing one concert with the Cantata Singers.
Theater
I also minored in theater arts at MIT. I played the part of Cucurucu in Marat/Sade, Angelo in Tooth and Nail, and Jeetu in Harvest with the UC Berkeley Department of Theater, Dance, and Performance Studies (TDPS). I was a Reader for the Berkeley Repertory Theater literary department for several years.
Sustainable development
I used to be the Computing Resources Chair for Engineers for a Sustainable World. They are a group interested in how technology interfaces with development, and how to use technology to help underserved communities. I am still interested in these issues, but have not been very active, much to my dismay.
