Communication schemes have been proposed for MIMO relay networks that achieve the optimal diversity-multiplexing tradeoff, but at the price of complex operations at the relays. On the other hand, simple amplify-and-forward operation at the relays has been shown to be suboptimal. In this talk, I will present a new linear relaying scheme that achieves the optimal diversity-mutliplexing tradeoff for such networks. The analysis of the scheme involves the study of the joint distribution of random matrix subdeterminants.
