The channel capacity of the discrete Poisson particle channel and the continuous gaussian channel are posed as two versions of the same channel. The solution based on a single porobability distribution, the Gordon distribution, is used to determine the capacity, only invoking the maximum entropy principle to guide the development. The body of the paper is classical, but the conclusion is in accord with the wave/particle duality of quantum theory.
